These are state ELA test results from 2023 & 2024. The blue bar represents how these students performed on the 4th grade state ELA assessment. The red bar indicates how the same students performed on the 5th grade state ELA assessment. I attribute much of their growth to the Word Mapping Project curriculum used in 5th grade. Two students reached the proficiency level cut score of 450. One other student made significant growth and came close to the reading proficiency cut score.

Here is a side by side comparison of the same words spelled in September and then in March of the same school year in 5th grade by one of my students. The improvement is pretty remarkable. These were all words taught in the Word Mapping Project curriculum. It shows the words are sticking! In March, he only spelled one out of the 30 words wrong. In September, he spelled only 5 correctly.
